Description
This multi-disciplinary project investigates the multi-scale relationships between tectonic uplift, topographic evolution, chemical weathering, and seismicity. The Himalayan orogen in central Nepal is the representative study site. The seismic experiment is a high resolution reflection/refraction profile using a dense 20-km array within which SSF impact sources will be carried out. The array consists of 200 three-component nodes at 100 m spacing, deployed just once and recorded for one month. Sources will target upper crust to near surface. Inside this fixed array, high resolution shallow refraction/reflecton surveys will be carried out in selected sites . These high resolution surveys will use a 2-km array composed of 200 nodes at 10 m spacing, and they will be carried out at several locations inside the 20-km array. Circle array collection will also be carried out targeting shallow fracture anisotropy.
