Description
The overall goal of the project is to integrate continental scientific drilling as a tool in understanding the paleoenvironmental context of human origins. This new research direction in merging earth science and paleoanthropological research will involve obtaining drill core records from near-continuous lacustrine sedimentary sequences, located on-land, close to areas of critical importance for understanding hominin evolution, focused around critical time intervals for human origins in the Late Pliocene-Middle Pleistocene. In this phase of research, we will collect high-resolution seismic reflection data and other critical site-survey and subsurface data for two key localities in Kenya and Ethiopia, essential to the success of a future drilling program.
