This is a PhD dissertation work of student(Richard Engelkemeir). We have used LIDAR data to interpret the locations of both known and candidate active surface faults in the Houston area. We would like to conduct shallow high resolution seismic surveys over both known and potential faults. Surveys over known faults will provide supporting data for the assertion that the faults are significant tectonic features and serve as a reference for comparison with candidate faults. Surveys over potential fault locations will aid in indication whether these features are faults or other phenomena (e.g. stream terraces). We will be examining both reflection and refraction processing and will be assisted by Dr Stephen Danbom (Rice University). Fault classification is important for hazard assessment along with tectonic studies.
