Description
The most representative faults in the study area are: San Jeronimo, the most eastern fault of RFS; Cordoba and Navarco faults, associated with aftershocks distribution of the Armenia Earthquake; and the Armenia fault whose recent activity is evident inside the Armenia city. In general these faults are oriented NNE with almost vertical dips toward East and West. Its disposition in form of blocks is associated to a strike-slip system and presents left-lateral displacements.Although recently, the distribution of aftershocks and focal mechanisms has been associated to the Cordoba fault with the Armenia Earthquake, there are several doubts about the superficial crust structure that govern this zone. In particular, this zone has been scenario of several destructive events during the Twenty Century (1938, Ms=7.0; 1961, Ms=6.7; 1962, Ms=6.7
