A magnitude 7.1 earthquake occurred at a depth of 14 km (8.7 miles) in the South Sandwich Islands, an uninhabited British territory off the coast of Argentina in the southern Atlantic Ocean. This earthquake is an aftershock of a M8.1 earthquake that occurred on Aug 12.
