This is the tenth unit in the Remote Online Sessions for Emerging Seismologists (ROSES), an online course for graduate students. ROSES is hosted by the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Seismology Section. This unit on Optimal Interpolation is provided by Tony Lowry, Utah State University.

Objectives:

At the end of this lesson, students will be able to:

  • learn how a decades-old spatial interpolation (Optimal Interpolation) has gained popularity in machine-learning
  • apply the method to a joint structural inversion for crustal structure
  • apply the method to regional gravity data
